Quick question: is there an email sent automatically to the paper's authors when a comment is left, or should I send them an email myself to ask them to check it out?

Unfortunately, no automatic email is sent out yet. I hope to put a feature like this in when I next get a chance to work on this site.

I found that if you don't add 'http://' before a web site, the address will be appended to the conflate.net address. Unfortunately I added my comment before registering so I can't correct it… http://www.conflate.net/icml/paper/2008/324#discussion__section
